Professional accountants in Saskatchewan will soon be represented by a new self-regulating body called the Institute of Chartered Professional Accountants of Saskatchewan (CPA Saskatchewan), following passage of The Accounting Profession Act.The Act grants a new, common designation - Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) - to Chartered Accountants, Certified Management Accountants, and Certified General Accountants in Saskatchewan.
“The new CPA designation, along with creation of a single self-regulating institute for professional accountants, will strengthen and unify the accounting profession in our province,” Finance Minister Ken Krawetz said. “The unification will enhance the standards of the profession and assure Saskatchewan people that they are dealing with qualified professional accountants.”
“This legislation is part of the broader initiative to merge provincial professional accounting associations across Canada,” CPA Canada President and CEO Kevin Dancey said. “Saskatchewan is the second jurisdiction in Canada to pass the necessary legislation. I applaud the Saskatchewan government and Minister Krawetz for the leadership they have provided in having this legislation tabled and passed in a timely manner, supporting the profession and making the merger of professional accountants in Saskatchewan a priority.”
CPA Saskatchewan will represent about 4,400 professional accountants across the province, as well as nearly 1,000 students.
