Premier’s Commendation Award Recognizes Remarkable Saskatchewan Residents

Released on April 8, 2014

Today, the first Saskatchewan Premier’s Commendation Awards were presented to eight Saskatchewan citizens who have served the province, their communities and, in a few cases, complete strangers.

”It’s been said that true heroism is when the will defies fear, when duty throws the gauntlet down to fate,” Premier Brad Wall said.  “Today, we recognize outstanding Saskatchewan citizens who can rightly be described as heroes.  Through extraordinary acts of bravery and dedicated public service, they have answered the call to action, putting aside concerns about their own safety and well-being to save lives and comfort others.

“This award is a small payment on the debt we owe these individuals, who represent the best of Saskatchewan and serve as an inspiration for us all.”

The award was created to acknowledge exemplary service or actions of Saskatchewan residents.

“Saskatchewan has dedicated awards to volunteers, public servants and citizens for lifetime achievements in their fields,” commendation committee chair and Wood River MLA Yogi Huyghebaert said.  “This award was created to acknowledge those who took remarkable, selfless action when the situation demanded it.”

The 2014 Premier’s Commendation Award recipients are:
  • Luther High School, Regina
  • Constable Steve Enns, Estevan
  • Devin Knot, Meadow Lake
  • Joshua Lasas, Flying Dust First Nation
  • Brett Opikokew, Meadow Lake
  • Duane McKay, Regina
  • Dwight Siman, Regina
  • Shelley Baldwin, Oxbow
To recommend a candidate for the Premier’s Commendation Award, residents are asked to contact their MLA.
