The province is one step closer to using photo radar to increase safety in highway work zones.
ACS Public Sector Solutions has been selected as the supplier of mobile photo radar. The company plans to have the units up and running in Saskatchewan work zones within a few weeks.
“We are pleased to announce that photo radar will soon be deployed on Saskatchewan highways,” Highways and Infrastructure Minister Don McMorris said. “The use of these mobile photo radar units is an important step in our campaign to improve work zone safety.”
Photo radar is just the latest tool to be deployed in work zones on Saskatchewan Highways. Earlier this spring the government implemented simplified signage, granted highway transport patrol officers the ability to hand out tickets, and increased fines for speeding in work zones. Motorists are now required to slow to 60 km/hr or else face fines starting at $300.
Saskatchewan residents will have to keep these rules in mind as they head out on the road for the Canada Day long weekend. Highway 14 near Unity and Highway 48 near Windthorst are among the new maintenance and upgrade projects underway this week.
