SASKATOON ROOFING COMPANY FINED FOR SAFETY VIOLATIONS

Little Rainbow Roofing & Exteriors Inc. of Saskatoon has pleaded guilty to two counts under the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, 1996 for failure to ensure that all work at a place of employment was sufficiently and competently supervised, and failure to provide and/or require workers to use appropriate protective headwear.  The company was fined $480 in Saskatoon Provincial Court on August 14, 2013.

The conviction relates to an incident which occurred on August 16, 2011.  Occupational Health Officers observed two workers on a roof who were not in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, 1996.  Two other charges were stayed.

OHS conducts approximately 4,000 worksite inspections annually to ensure standards are known, understood and enforced.  In the last five years, OHS has cited 6,389 contraventions in the construction sector.
