Saskatchewan highway crews and contractors plan to be out in full force this week, if Mother Nature allows, to continue work on dozens of road projects.
Highways and Infrastructure Minister Jim Reiter reminds motorists to be aware of the potential for construction workers and equipment as they travel throughout Saskatchewan.
"The Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure is beginning another aggressive construction season this year," Reiter said. "With the second largest capital construction budget in the history of Saskatchewan, motorists should expect to see many orange zones throughout the province. Please be patient and slow down to 60 km/hr when passing highway workers."
New activity expected to be underway for this update period includes work on Highway 2 near Watrous, Highway 16 near Saskatoon, Highway 30 near Eston, Highway 38 near Greenwater Lake, and Highway 374 near Scott, along with the continuation of twinning between Saskatoon and Prince Albert on Highway 11 near Macdowall.
The weekly construction update is also posted to the Highway Hotline Facebook page at www.facebook.com/SaskatchewanHighwayHotline and Tweeted @SKGovHwyHotline. Images of various construction projects can also be viewed in a photo gallery on the ministry's website at www.highways.gov.sk.ca/constructionseason2012.
Additional travel information about emergency road closures due to severe weather and other events, the status of ferries and barges, along with other road activities, can also be found on the Highway Hotline at www.highways.gov.sk.ca/road-conditions.
