ORANGE ZONE SAFETY ADS HIT RADIO AIRWAVES

Released on July 11, 2012

Weekly Highway Construction Update

An advertising campaign aimed at reminding motorists to slow to 60 km/hr when passing workers and equipment in Orange Zones during the busy highway construction season was recently launched by the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure.

"Whether it's hauling important resources by truck or taking a family trip to one of our many lakes, a safe and efficient highway network is vital to the movement of goods and people in Saskatchewan," Highways and Infrastructure Minister Don McMorris said. "Our crews and contractors are working to ensure highways are in a condition that can accommodate additional traffic in our growing province. The safety of these men and women is very important to all of us."

With another active weekend on the roads anticipated, motorists should be aware of a number of new projects expected to get underway including bridge replacement east of the Erwood Access on Highway 3, sealing of Highway 8 from the Canada-U.S. border to Carievale, culvert replacement on Highway 1 west of Morse, paving of various sections of Highway 16 west of Marshall, surfacing of Highway 55 southwest of Meath Park and a culvert installation under Highway 56 north of Indian Head.

The weekly construction update is posted to the Highway Hotline Facebook page at www.facebook.com/SaskatchewanHighwayHotline and tweeted @SKGovHwyHotline. Pictures of various construction projects and other maintenance activities can be found in a photo gallery on the ministry's website at www.highways.gov.sk.ca/constructionseason2012.

Additional travel information about emergency road closures, the status of ferries and barges along with other road activities can also be found on the Highway Hotline at www.highways.gov.sk.ca/road-conditions. It's also available by calling 306-787-7623 in Regina, 306-933-8333 in Saskatoon, the SaskTel cellular network at *ROAD, toll-free across Canada at 1-888-335-7623 and via the Highway Hotline mobile website at hotline.gov.sk.ca/sk/map/mobile.

The new radio ad can be found at www.highways.gov.sk.ca/orangezone.
