WEEKLY PROVINCIAL HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

Released on September 9, 2010

Drivers are advised to be aware of ongoing and upcoming provincial highway construction projects during their Saskatchewan travels to help plan safe and efficient routes to their destinations.

"Be cautious and alert when approaching any road construction and obey all flag persons and slow to 60 km/hr when passing highway workers and equipment," Highways and Infrastructure Minister Jim Reiter said. "We also appreciate the inconvenience that construction may cause while projects are underway and at various stages, but please keep in mind our transportation system will be better for everyone once the work is completed."

New activity expected to be underway in September includes a culvert installation on Highway 6 south of Milestone, other culvert installations in the Weyburn area on Highway 13, paving on Highway 12 near Saskatoon and Highway 40 near Leask, along with other work on Highway 44 near Loreburn. For more details and a list of other long-term projects in various stages of construction or progress, please see the attached backgrounder.

For other important information, such as emergency road closures due to severe weather, flooding or forest fires, along with short-term maintenance activities, motorists can check the Highway Hotline.
