Saskatchewan Aviation and Aerospace Week Runs Nov. 14 to 21
Highways and Infrastructure Minister Jim Reiter has designated Nov. 14 to 21 as Saskatchewan Aviation and Aerospace Week to recognize the important role this transportation mode plays in the province.
"From community regional airports to larger ones, the aviation sector helps link businesses and tourism quickly with provincial, national and international markets and clients," Reiter said. "Airports also have a role in sustaining our quality of life, such as supporting policing, fire fighting and air ambulance services."
In conjunction with the week, the Saskatchewan Aviation Council (SAC) and the Saskatchewan Aerial Applicators Association (SAAA) are hosting an annual conference and trade show in Yorkton called Wings of Saskatchewan from Nov. 17 to 19.
"It's a chance for the industry to get together to share new ideas, best practices and learn about new developments to better fulfill our transportation role," SAC President Janet Keim said.
The Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure has supported Saskatchewan's aviation sector this fiscal year by allocating $500,000 for the Community Airport Partnership (CAP) Program, which is a cost-shared infrastructure program for eligible local airports. The ministry also owns 17 northern airports and expects to spend nearly $1.9 million to operate and maintain them this fiscal year.
