Motorists are advised to be aware of new and ongoing provincial highway construction projects as they travel throughout Saskatchewan.
"I want to thank all the dedicated ministry staff and contractors who have been working around the clock to repair damages sustained due to flooding," Highways and Infrastructure Minister Jim Reiter said. "Motorists are reminded to be alert as they approach any highway construction, obey all flag persons and slow to 60 km/hr when passing highway workers and equipment."
The ministry continues to work aggressively to re-open the Trans Canada (Highway 1) near Maple Creek. Work is progressing on temporary repairs on the east-bound lanes. Completion of these repairs is expected later this week and will allow the highway to open with two-lane service.
New construction activity expected to be underway for this period includes bridge work on Highway 1 west of Rush Lake, repaving on Highway 2 north of Waskesiu, a culvert replacement on Highway 2 near Holdfast, repaving on Highway 4 south of Meadow Lake, various work on Highway 4 north of Glaslyn, along with microsurfacing on Highway 44 northeast of Plato and west of Eston. For more details and a list of other long-term projects, please see the attached backgrounder.
