WEEKLY PROVINCIAL HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

Released on June 17, 2010

Motorists are advised to be aware of new and ongoing provincial highway construction projects in various stages as they travel throughout Saskatchewan.

"We ask that motorists please be patient as delays in construction areas ultimately lead to improvements on the highway and safer travel for everyone," Highways and Infrastructure Minister Jim Reiter said.

On Thursday, June 17, Highway 2 near Cudworth will be temporarily closed as a culvert is installed. A local detour is in place, but truckers and motorists are advised to use alternate routes, such as Highways 20 and 41. Highway 2 is expected to re-open by Friday, June 18.

Other new work expected to be underway includes a bridge replacement on Highway 10 near Fort Qu'Appelle with a temporary bridge in place to accommodate traffic, along with construction on Highway 13 near Eastend, Highway 26 south of Turtleford, Highway 55 northeast of Carrot River and near Meath Park.

For more details and a list of other longer-term projects, please see the attached backgrounder.

Construction work is always subject to weather conditions, contractor progress and can change regularly. Motorists can also get additional travel information from the Highway Hotline online at http://www.highways.gov.sk.ca/road-conditions/.

Highway Hotline information via telephone or wireless device is as follows: Regina and area at 306-787-7623; Saskatoon and area at 306-933-8333; on the SaskTel cellular network at *ROAD; and toll-free across Canada at 1-888-335-7623; and at http://roadinfo.telenium.ca/mobile.html.
