Saskatchewan Transportation Week Runs June 2 to 8
Motorists are advised to be aware of ongoing provincial highway construction as Saskatchewan Transportation Week moves ahead.
"As a land-locked, export-based economy, the transportation system is key to getting our goods to worldwide markets and for Saskatchewan's economic success," Highways and Infrastructure Minister Jim Reiter said. "Saskatchewan Transportation Week recognizes the variety of professionals that are required to maintain and operate a safe and efficient transportation system. Contractors, engineers, frontline personnel, drivers and operators work together to achieve this goal."
New work recently underway includes construction on Highway 1 east of Regina, a culvert replacement on Highway 4 north of Glaslyn, paving on Highway 16 near Theodore, paving and culvert replacements on Highway 23 near Carrot River, work on Highway 38 south of Greenwater Lake Provincial Park, work on Highway 40 near Marsden, along with a bridge replacement on Highway 306 near Colfax.
"Motorists are reminded to watch out for the Orange Zone, be alert and be prepared to stop as directed," Reiter said. "As always, remember, drivers who exceed 60 km/h when passing highway workers and equipment face a base fine of $140."
Construction work is subject to weather conditions and contractor progress. Motorists can also get additional travel information from the Highway Hotline online at http://www.highways.gov.sk.ca/road-conditions/.
Highway Hotline information via telephone or wireless device is as follows: Regina and area at 306-787-7623; Saskatoon and area at 306-933-8333; on the SaskTel cellular network at *ROAD; and toll-free across Canada at 1-888-335-7623; and at http://roadinfo.telenium.ca/mobile.html.
Saskatchewan Transportation Week is an opportunity to recognize those involved in the transportation sector ranging from the logistics industry to those who build and maintain the system.
