BRIDGE ANNOUNCEMENT FOR GREENWATER LAKE PROVINCIAL PARK

Released on July 14, 2009

The Government of Saskatchewan announced today a new bridge will be built in Greenwater Lake Provincial Park.

The layout of Greenwater Lake Provincial Park requires a bridge to connect the core area of the park to campgrounds, rental cabins and the marina. The existing timber bridge, which has load and traffic restrictions, is being replaced by a new steel/pre-cast concrete structure.

"The current bridge in Greenwater Lake Provincial Park no longer meets the needs of park users," said Minister of Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Dustin Duncan. "The new bridge will ensure Greenwater Lake Provincial Park continues to be the safe, accessible and enjoyable recreation destination it has been for years."

Last year, inspections of the existing bridge by the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure led to reduced load limits and the restriction of traffic to one lane. The existing bridge will be demolished at the end of the current park season.

The contract for the new bridge has been awarded to Ridgewood Construction of Nipawin for $497,770. Construction will begin in September of this year and is expected to be completed by November.
