NEW AD CAMPAIGN AIMS AT DRAWING ONTARIO WORKERS TO SASKATCHEWAN

Released on May 22, 2008

Premier Brad Wall today unveiled a major new marketing campaign, designed to draw attention to career opportunities in Saskatchewan.

"Our economy is leading the nation in growth, we have a cost of living that is lower compared to other jurisdictions and we offer many advantages in terms of quality of life," Wall said. "Through this out-of-province ad campaign, we're going to be telling the Saskatchewan story to people across Canada who are actively looking for a new opportunity."

The $400,000 campaign includes billboards, radio spots and web-based ads aimed at online job seekers.

The ads feature the saskjobs.ca website and focus on two young people - one from Newfoundland, the other returning to Saskatchewan - who have found exciting new opportunities in our province.

The ads will run in Alberta, Manitoba and Ontario with most of the money spent in the Ontario market. They will run from May 26 to June 23 and coincide with two industry-led missions into Ontario.

Enterprise and Innovation Minister Lyle Stewart will travel to Windsor June 1-3 for meetings with business and municipal officials and Advanced Education, Employment and Labour Minister Rob Norris will lead a delegation of Saskatchewan employers to the WorkWest Career Fair in London, Ontario, May 30-31.

Participation in the WorkWest Career Fair is taking place in co-operation with the Saskatoon Regional Economic Development Authority (SREDA). This is the second WorkWest Career Fair they have attended this year.

"Saskatoon employers who joined us in Toronto in March came away with new employees and were overwhelmed by the interest in Saskatoon by Ontarians," SREDA CEO Alan Migneault said. "The further attention created by the Ministers' activities in Ontario, combined with the Province's new campaign will most certainly have people taking a closer look at opportunities in Saskatoon and throughout Saskatchewan."
