FBDI offers training to help you improve your understanding of your farm business, help you get prepared for the future and become more efficient and profitable.
Some of the most popular areas for training are marketing, financial Management, and succession Planning. Training in marketing can broaden your understanding of grain contracts, supply and demand, hedging and the basis. Through financial management courses you could learn how to use software to set up and maintain a set of farm books, as well as how to regularly follow and analyse your farm’s financial performance. Succession planning courses provide a broader understanding of the types of decisions that must be made in transferring a farm to the next generation. Such courses cover the understanding of the structure of corporations, taxation considerations, and preparing for the future.
Candice Frederiksen who farms near Edenwold, had this to say about FBDI program offerings.
“I attended the Women in Ag Conference in Calgary in March, for which I received funding through FBDI. This conference was motivating, educational, and a very positive experience. I have a new Ag business idea and this conference was a great "kickstarter" for me! Being a former Environmental Farm Plan/Farm Stewardship Program facilitator, small business entrepreneur, and life-long farmer, I fully believe in the importance of ongoing education and staying current. FBDI plays a key role in assisting producers to further/enhance their skills and education in the agriculture sector. There's such a broad range of courses approved for funding that there's "something for everyone". I plan to apply for more courses in the near future.”
